You are allowed to travel by plane, ferry and/or train.
Traveling by plane or ferry
The travel agency will help you with booking plane and ferry tickets.The travel agency will propose to you the most affordable flight or ferry of the day. If the proposed traveling time doesn’t suit you for an absolutely compelling reason, you can ask the travel agency to propose an alternative flight or ferry. If you don’t have a justified reason, you are expected to accept the first proposal.
In most cases, domestic transportation within your home country is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS. Please see the country specific instructions at the end of this page.
Traveling by land
If you travel by train, you will be asked to book your own tickets which will be reimbursed to you after the event. You will receive separate instructions for this.
Please do not make any travel arrangements before your participation has been confirmed by the organizer!
Once you have filled the application form and your participation has been confirmed to you by the organiser, cancellation is not possible unless you fall ill.Once your ticket has been purchased, it is not possible to change it to another one.
You will be asked to choose your preferred amount of luggage at the application form.
All participants must have valid travel insurance. The organiser is unable to provide participants with insurance.
Åland
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Mariehamn to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Mariehamn from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Please note that there are no planes from Åland to Helsinki on Thursday, November 27th, so you are expected to travel by ferry. On Sunday, November 30th, you can choose between a ferry and a plane.
Denmark
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Copenhagen or Aarhus to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Copenhagen or Aarhus from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Estonia
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Tallinn to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Tallinn from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Faroe Islands
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Vágar to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Vágar from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Finland
Domestic public transport will be covered by the organiser. You will be contacted by the organiser who will book the tickets for you.
Please note that flying within Finland is only allowed in special circumstances.
Greenland
Due to the long distances in Greenland, we will do our best to arrange your travels from where you live to Helsinki and back. You will be contacted by the travel agency for this purpose.
Iceland
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Reykjavik to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Reykjavik from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Latvia
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Riga to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Riga from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Lithuania
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Vilnius to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Vilnius from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Norway
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Oslo or Bergen to Helsinki and back. Domestic transportation to Oslo or Bergen from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
Sweden
Participants’ travel costs will be covered from Stockholm, Göteborg or Copenhagen to Helsinki and back. Transportation to Stockholm, Göteborg or Copenhagen from another municipality is not covered by the organiser of the NBYS.
