The aim of the Nordic Baltic Youth Summit is to answer one question: what should Nordic and Baltic governments do about the green transition and youth employment?

This question is addressed in policy groups that all work on one sub-theme. The result? Policy recommendations that will be handed to the Finnish Minister of Youth, Mika Poutala, at the end of the Summit.

As a participant, you have been sent a link to the registration form. You are asked to select three policy groups and list them in the order of preference by November 7th. We will let you know in the following week which policy group you are selected to.

Increasing employment
‍

What explains the high unemployment rates among young people? Should we guarantee jobs for young people – and how? How can age-based discrimination be eradicated in the labour market?

Rules at Working Life
‍

How can we protect young employees from harassment, discrimination or exploitation? How can we strengthen workplace democracy?

POLICY GROUP 3

Mental health in Working Life
‍‍

How should working life change so that it supports the mental health of young people and does not burn anyone out? How can we reduce mental health-based disability pensions?

Education and Mobility
‍‍

What kind of education helps young people meet the needs of the future labor market? How can we better recognize non-formal education?

What should we do to make sure that the green transition is socially just? Should we ensure that the people whose current jobs are not aligned with the green transition receive retraining – and how?

Entrepreneurship

How to promote entrepreneurial skills among young people? How to secure the livelihood of young entrepreneurs? How to support young entrepreneurs in growing and internationalizing their business?

Circular Economy

What mechanisms should governments use to support the success of circular economy companies? How can we encourage people to favor products and services that stem from the circular economy?

Corporate Responsibility

How should companies be encouraged or obliged to develop their business in an ecologically sustainable way? Is it time to give up some sectors?

Technology
‍‍‍‍‍

What technologies support the green transition and how can we support their development or adoption? What risks are associated with technology and how can they be addressed?

Artificial Intelligence

How is AI used responsibly in working life? Is some sort of regulation needed? How can we promote young people’s skills in media literacy?

POLICY GROUP 11

Local Participation
‍‍‍‍‍‍

How should young people be involved in decision making processes where massive green transition investments are planned for their home region? How do we ensure that the rights of indigenous peoples are fulfilled?

POLICY GROUP 12

Global Participation
‍‍‍‍‍‍

How do we ensure that the green transition is not promoted without consulting young people in developing countries? What mechanisms are needed to strengthen their participation?
